As Head of Digital Marketing at Walmart Canada, Byron Ells is accountable for digital performance marketing, digital campaign planning and activation, and customer data, personalization, and advertising technology. In his role, Ells is a key member of both the eCommerce Leadership and Marketing Leadership teams, to help integrate marketing activities between the Walmart.ca and bricks-and-mortar businesses.
In his previous role as Vice-President, Media & Digital Marketing for Shoppers Drug Mart Corporation, Ells led the 23-person Media and Digital team with accountability for end-to-end customer experience and technology delivery for all branded digital customer channels, digital marketing, media planning and buying, and flyer optimization and distribution. Under his leadership, Shoppers Drug Mart ignited its foray into mobile, social media, and eCommerce, launching its first mobile app, its branded platforms on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and the Murale eCommerce business.
Prior to joining Shoppers Drug Mart, Ells was Director, New Media Innovation for the Canadian Broadcast Corporation (CBC) where he launched and oversaw a team developing new programming and revenue streams. He has also worked at Alliance Atlantis and Blast Radius, a leading digital agency. Ells is a frequent judge, speaker, and panelist for various digital and marketing forums, and is currently a member of the RCC Marketing Committee.
