In 1986, Wendy Liebmann founded WSL/STRATEGIC RETAIL – global retail strategists and shopping futurists, to "get marketers out of their ivory towers and meeting their shoppers on the selling floor.” Whether that floor is real or virtual, her philosophy remains the same: if you are passionate about shoppers every day, if you stay close to their needs, wants, dreams, lifestyles, their “shopping life,” the chance of success is great…in good times and bad.
Wendy is recognized as one of the innovators of shopper insights. Her company was the first to study shoppers (not consumers) and their “shopping life.” WSL/STRATEGIC RETAIL helps clients build innovative retail strategies by understanding and translating the impact of cultural, economic and social issues into how people shop in the US and around the world -- today and in the future.
Since 1989, WSL/STRATEGIC RETAIL has published How America Shops®, an ongoing nationwide survey, the first ever to track shoppers’ mood, mindset and behavior and successfully predict evolving shopping attitudes, behaviors, and where retail is headed.

Wendy has extensive global experience in marketing, retailing and research, first in her native Australia where she learned to be a passionate shopper, then globally. She holds a degree in business and psychology from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia.
She writes Trends from The EDGE, a monthly newsletter on emerging shifts in the global shopping landscape and is frequently called upon by the media to provide insight into the state of retail and shopping. Wendy contributes a monthly bylined column to Forbes.com and is frequently invited to share her insights at such prominent media outlets as CBS, ABC, CNN, BBC, MarketWatch, NPR, The Wall Street Journal, New York Times and Women’s Wear Daily. She is a highly respected speaker and thought leader, who regularly addresses executive audiences at business and education conferences throughout the world.
